Top of the Morning to Ya’

Romans 1:20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made.

Ireland and Scotland. Breathtaking scenery and fascinating history. Celtic music and pubs with fish and chips. Our two-week tour of these Gaelic countries provided opportunity for us to get an incredible peek into some of God’s creation.

We arrived in Dublin after a sleepless 7 ½ hour flight from Philadelphia. But we hit the ground running. Leaving our luggage at the hotel, we started exploring the city. We walked until it seemed we couldn’t take another step (getting lost more than once). And by the time we finished the evening dinner with our tour group, we were more than ready for bed.

But, of course, visiting another country comes with the need for adjustment-making. The next morning, my husband woke me up with great urgency. “We have to be downstairs for breakfast in 15 minutes!” After quickly dressing, we rushed to the dining room only to discover no one else there. Our sleep-deprived, achy-back bodies had arrived two hours early! He had miscalculated the time change!

The creator of the whole universe, maker of heaven and earth, invites us to enjoy his creation no matter where we are or what adjustments we have to make. In fact, Paul says we learn about God’s invisible attributes via the things he has made! It’s hard to be agnostic after experiencing the rocky Irish shoreline and the Scottish highland mountains. Where could such artistry come from but a divine creator? Not a chance of it originating by chance.

Let’s not miss those invisible attributes. If necessary, let’s  make some adjustments in order to see the reality of what’s right in front of us. To shift from natural, present time zones and view life from God’s time zone. Only an eternal perspective can infuse meaning into both the mundane and the amazing. God even uses our miscalculations to teach us about patience and provide a good laugh.

We don’t have to go to Ireland to discover God. We can experience another “country” right now, wherever we are. Look for his presence, and top of the morning to ya!
