Supernatural People

2 Peter 1:4  by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.

Christians are a supernatural people. And by supernatural, I’m referring to more than working miracles, healing the sick and speaking prophetic words. Those who have been born into the family of God may experience these things. But far greater, according to 1 Corinthians 13, is the transformation of our hearts.

Bob Goff writes we believers are “the best evidence to the world that Jesus was raised from the dead.” And it’s no wonder! Walking in Christ means we “partake” in his divine nature, no longer confined by the limits of our human nature. That, friend, is a supernatural thing.

We have access to supernatural love, love beyond what comes naturally. When our human nature cries, “Get even!” we forgive. We extend grace for people others would write off. And let the tender mercies of the Lord shape how we view other people—even ourselves. Divine indeed.

We also house supernatural ability to resist temptation. “For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted” (Hebrews 2:18). We all face different temptations in varying degrees. But no matter how strong the pull, our God promises to provide us with supernatural strength to overcome. To the degree we soak in his grace we learn how to “say no to ungodliness and worldly passions” (Titus 2:11-12).

It reminds me of escape rooms. Have you ever been to one? Managers “lock” players into a room where they must solve puzzles and clues in order to find their way out within a specified time. Like those participants, our fallen nature locked us into a room, a room with no escape from brokenness, despair, and ultimate destruction.

But a supernatural God has set us free and turned us into supernatural people. Now, your changed life and mine provide evidence of what freedom through Christ looks like. Our transformation offers clues to folks still locked “in the room.”

When we live like supernatural people, we may just help others realize there’s something to this supernatural God-thing after all.
